Utica College Athletic Director Dave Fontaine recently announced the hiring of Josh Higby as the new head coach of the Utica College volleyball team.  Higby will be in charge of all facets of the program, including recruiting, practice and game preparation, as well as all administrative duties.

Higby comes to UC from nearby Mohawk Valley Community College, where he served as the head volleyball coach for the last seven years.  Higby was named the Mountain Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 2019 after leading the Hawks to an NJCAA Region III Tournament berth.

"We're very excited to have Josh as our head women's volleyball coach," said Fontaine.  "He brings with him seven years of collegiate coaching experience that will help for a smooth coaching transition for the women on the team.  We are looking forward to Josh building our volleyball program to compete for future conference titles."

"My goal [at Utica College] will be to develop a program that fosters an environment that allows the athletes to grow as students and as people," said Higby.  "This will be accomplished by reaching out to the surrounding communities and schools. By taking an active role in the development of local high school programs, it will ensure that Utica College will continue to grow as a leading institute for higher education."

Higby is no stranger to UC as he received both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Utica, while also playing on the men's lacrosse team for four years, including serving as team captain both his junior and senior seasons.
