Empire 8 Commissioner Chuck Mitrano is proud to announce that Jeff McKinney will serve as the Empire 8 Women’s Volleyball Officials Assignor, effective for the 2021-22 season.
“Jeff’s accomplishments and knowledge of volleyball is eclipsed only by his passion for the sport,” said Mitrano, who is entering his 21st season as Empire 8 Commissioner. “We are ecstatic to have his expertise to develop and enhance our volleyball officials.”
McKinney has served as an assignor for nearly 15 years, having worked with several institutions in Western New York. He is also the SUNYAC and Western New York Athletic Conference Assignors for women’s volleyball. He is on the Professional Association of Volleyball Officials (PAVO) Board of Directors as a Director at Large and is a Director of National Clinics and National Rating /Training/Mentor Team Member for USA Volleyball.
“I am both honored and excited to officially be a part of the Empire 8 team,” said McKinney, who has also served as a school administrator for nearly 20 years. “I have been assigning various conferences for 13 years in New York State and I am looking forward to working with the E8 coaches and conference staff to provide the student-athletes with knowledgeable, friendly, and professional officials.
McKinney also serves as a Division I women’s volleyball official for the Big 10, ACC, Big East, Ivy League, Patriot League, America East Conference and MAAC. He has officiated NCAA Tournament games at the Division I, II and III levels for several seasons
“Being a current Division I official, I have access to the latest training and information pertaining to officiating and enjoy disseminating that information and building capacity for all levels of officials,” said McKinney. “I am truly looking forward to this partnership and moving the game forward as a part of this team.”
McKinney earned his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Geneseo and master’s degree from SUNY Brockport. He also obtained a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from Brockport and has several New York State teaching and coaching certifications. McKinney has spent nearly 25 years as an educator in New York State and is nearing 20 years as a school administrator.
