Josh Pomerleau of Nazareth College and Chase Pecoraro and Kyle Swiecki of Utica College were named 2021 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Men’s Track and Field All-Academic Athletes.
Overall, there were more than 450 men who were named All-Academic Athletes in NCAA Division III Track & Field. In order to qualify, the following criteria must be met.
- Minimum CUMULATIVE grade point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale through the most recently completed grading period.
- Graduate students must take all undergraduate plus graduate coursework into account.
- Meet one of the following athletic criteria:
- Must have finished the indoor season among the top 50 individuals as listed on the descending order lists on TFRRS. In addition, any athletes not among the top 50, but who participated at the Indoor or Outdoor National Championships, are eligible
- Must have competed as a member of one of the top 35 relay teams as listed on the indoor descending order list on TFRRS. In addition, any athletes not among the top 35 relay teams, but who participated in the relay at the Indoor or Outdoor National Championships, are eligible. Finally, any competing relay team member on an expanded descending order list to include 35 institutions (1 relay team per institution) is eligible.
Pomerleau, a junior, recorded the 42nd best mark in the pole vault for Nazareth during the indoor season, vaulting 4.28 meters on Feb. 27. He finished second at the 2021 Empire 8 Indoor Track and Field Championship on March 20 and third at the E8 Outdoor Championship in the event on May 8.
Pecoraro had a throw of 55.05 meters in the javelin at the University of Buffalo Invitational on April 17 to earn USTFCCCA All-Region honors with the fifth best performance during the outdoor season. That throw was also 29th best in all of Division III. He also had the 48th best score nationally in the decathlon of 5,700 points. Pecoraro, a senior, was a two-time individual champion at the 2021 E8 Outdoor Championships on May 7-8, winning both the javelin and pole vault.
Swiecki, a senior, broke the Utica program record in the decathlon with 6,106 points to finish second overall in the event at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Championship on May 19-20. That was the second best score among all Atlantic-Region student-athletes and ranked 27th in all of Division III. He also was victorious in the 110-meter hurdles at the 2021 E8 Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Swiecki earned his third straight All-Atlantic Region honor, having earned indoor accolades in both 2018-19 and 2019-20.
