ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's soccer team won the Consolation Game during the final day of the Bryan Karl Tournament on Sunday at Yunevich Stadium, defeating SUNY Cobleskill 8-0.
The Saxons (1-2-2, 0-0-0 Empire 8) held a 2-0 leading going into halftime and exploded the scoring efforts in the final 10 minutes of play, scoring five of their goals in that timespan.
Christian Moon (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) was credited with the game-winning goal in the fourth minute of play as
Andrew Carrillo Macias (Reno, NV/North Valley) played a cross to him from just under 12 yards out. Moon scored his second of the game in the 35th
minute, unassisted as he hit one shot off the Fighting Tiger keeper, recovered and tipped the shot off a defender into the net.
Justin Eaton (Williamson, NY/Williamson) scored the first of the second half in the 68th minute when
Kalum Holbrook (Atlanta, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) fed the ball in from the far side of the pitch, right in front of net.
The 82nd minute of action began the scoring rampage from the Saxons as
Alexander Teijeira (North Collins, NY/North Collins) received a pass from
Connor Scriven (Peoria, AZ/Liberty) to tuck away the fourth goal for AU. Just 31 seconds later,
William Moore (Stormville, NY/John Jay) sent a long pass to Holbrook for the fifth goal. In the 85th minute, Teijeira gathered a long send from
Matthew Wedzik (North East, PA/North East), scoring the sixth.
Holbrook found net for the second time of regulation off an assist from Teijeira in the 88th minute and was awarded a penalty kick just 45 seconds later to claim his first collegiate hat-trick.
Robert Mann (Buffalo, NY/Frederick Law Olmsted) picked up the win in goal, having not faced a shot on goal but led a defense that kept all of the Fighting Tigers' efforts to a minimum.
Steven Morrow (Dryden, NY/Dryden) came in for relief in the second half to make two saves off of long shots.
"We keep building and learning and we have belief in ourselves and our teammates," Head Coach
Tracy Blake said. "Excited to move into the last week before conference starts and I'm very happy with the lads."
The Saxons will next head to SUNY Geneseo for non-conference action on Wednesday, September 15 at 6:00 pm.
