The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team upended the University of Rochester on Tuesday afternoon, 2-1, in a non-conference tilt inside Edwin Fauver Stadium. With the win, Fisher, which had not defeated Rochester over its last 15 meetings, improved to 3-1-0 while the Yellowjackets fell to 1-2-1 on the season.

The Cardinals struck first in the 21st minute after cashing in on a turnover deep in Rochester's own end that allowed Isabella Guarracino to notch her first goal of the season and stake the visitors to a 1-0 cushion.

Fisher would double its lead just three minutes later when Carli Kovarik netted her team-leading fifth goal of the year after burying a shot on a throw in from Lakin Woodward.

Holding a two-goal lead late in the second half, Fisher saw its advantage cut in half after Rochester found its mark from 28 yards out to make it 2-1 in the 86th minute. The home team continued to scramble down the stretch, but was unable to work its way through Fisher's defense as the Cardinals came out on top, 2-1.

In all, Fisher was credited with having taken 12 shots in the win led by Kovarik and Guarracino who each had four on the day. Kayla Rhude had three shots while Jessica Aldred rounded out the offense for head coach Molly Romano's team with one shot overall.

In goal, Halle Tickell moved to 2-0-0 on the year after allowing one goal over 90 minutes.

The Cardinals will look to build on their momentum at 1 p.m. on Saturday when they travel to Fredonia to battle the Blue Devils in another non-conference bout.
