HOUGHTON, NY – The Houghton College Men's soccer team won their road conference game at Elmira with a score of 1-0 Saturday afternoon. The Highlanders improve to 2-0-0 in league play to kick off the 2021 season.

The first half proved to be a fairly even battle between the two teams with neither team able to gain a clear advantage over the other. This lead to a pretty even shot count for each team in the first half (Houghton-4, Elmira-3) and also a scoreless game heading into the half.

The second half followed in similar fashion to the first, very little shots were taken as both teams picked up their defense and tried to keep the other from gaining an advantage. As time ticked down in this defensive battle, the Highlanders were able to find the back of the net in the 77th minute of the match off the foot of Logan Shrock. This would be the lone goal of the match, giving the Highlanders a 1-0 victory over the Eagles.

With the win, the Highlanders rise to 2-0-0 in Empire 8 play as they prepare to face Medaille at home on Wednesday Night.
