Christopher Cox of the Alfred University football team was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week on Tuesday, Sept. 28.
Cox led a stout Saxons defensive unit that limited Kalamazoo to only 10 yards rushing and 129 yards passing in a 10-7 road win for Alfred on Saturday. He had a game-high 14 tackles, including 10 solo tackles. Cox also had a game-high four tackles for a loss of 12 yards including one sack. He was named the Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 27 for his efforts.
A native of Rochester, NY, Cox leads the Empire 8 with 29 solo tackles and is third overall with 39 total tackles this season. He now has recorded 10 solo tackles in back-to-back games for the Saxons, who return to action on Oct. 9 at home versus Hartwick.
Cox is the first student-athlete from the Empire 8 to earn D3football.com Team of the Week accolades this season.
Conference play begins this weekend, as Cortland heads to Morrisville, Utica travels to Hartwick and St. John Fisher hosts Brockport in the Camp Good Days and Special Times Courage Bowl on Saturday, Oct. 2. Cortland is the lone Empire 8 unbeaten at 3-0 and is ranked No. 19 both the D3football.com and American Football Coaches Association national polls.
