PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Following a national search, the St. John Fisher College Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of Lauren Scorza as the next head coach of its field hockey program.

A rising star in the sport, Scorza comes to Fisher having served as an assistant coach with the University of Rochester since 2018 where she helped to mold the Yellowjackets into a perennial powerhouse.

"I'm excited and honored to join the St. John Fisher Family," Scorza said. "I'd like to thank Bob Ward and the search committee for providing me the opportunity to lead student-athletes on and off the field. I believe that my coaching philosophies and strategies align well with Fisher's competitive and successful field hockey program and I look forward to getting started."

While patrolling the sidelines on the River Campus, Scorza helped guide Rochester to a 45-19 (.703) overall record including a Liberty League championship in 2019. Under Scorza's tutelage, the Yellowjackets reached the NCAA Championship twice and made a run to the Elite 8 in 2018 after posting a school record 19 wins and an .864 winning percentage.

"We are very excited about the hiring of Lauren as our new head field hockey coach," added Bob Ward who has served as the College's Director of Athletics for over 30 years. "Lauren's exemplary playing career at Syracuse University and her role as an assistant coach at the University of Rochester has highlighted her passion for the game, work ethic and communication skills. We are looking forward to her beginning her journey at Fisher and watching her build upon on our very successful field hockey program."

In addition to her experience with Rochester, Scorza serves as a head coach in the club ranks with Empire United Field Hockey where she has helped to mentor and develop high school students as they prepare to play at the collegiate level.

A decorated student-athlete in her own right, Scorza played at Division I Syracuse University where she helped lead the Orange to an appearance in the national championship game in 2014.  She was named a co-captain in 2013 and helped her team claim two Big East titles over her four-year career.

The 2011 Big East Championship's Most Valuable Player, Scorza graduated from Syracuse with a degree in Nutrition.  To date, she still ranks in the program's top 10 in scoring with 40 career goals and 10 assists.

Scorza will inherit one of the more talented teams in Division III as the Cardinals are coming off another strong showing in 2021 after the team won its second consecutive Empire 8 title and played in the NCAA Championship for the third time since 2016.  In all, Fisher boasted seven All-Conference honorees including the Empire 8's Player and Defensive Players of the Year.  Three more would go on to be named All-Region by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association with one being named All-American at the conclusion of the campaign.
