SUNY Morrisville senior linebacker
Ernesto Mitchell and SUNY Cortland junior kick returner/wide freemen
Rashad Tucker were named to the D3football.com Team of the Week on Tuesday, Oct 11. This is the fifth week an Empire 8 student-athlete has earned the weekly accolade in 2022.
Mitchell, named the E8 Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, led the Mustangs defensive unit with his efforts in Saturday afternoon's win over St. John Fisher, collecting a total 11 tackles on the day as Morrisville held Fisher to just three total points in the E8 contest. Mitchell posted five solo stops, while registering 3.5 tackles for a loss of 22 total yards, including two sacks for a loss of 19 yards. On the final drive attempt by Fisher, Mitchell secured the win by forcing the turnover on downs with a 16-yard sack. It is Mitchell’s second D3football.com weekly accolade of the 2022 season.
Tucker was named the E8 Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday. He returned a kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown to give Cortland a 21-10 lead midway through the second quarter, and his 48-yard kick return set up a TD drive earlier in the quarter, during the Red Dragons' 42-24 win at Brockport. He finished with three kick returns for 142 yards.
Mitchell is the first E8 student-athlete to earn D3football.com Team of the Week honors for a second time in 2022, as he was also named on Sept. 13. Tucker joins the Alfred University duo of linebacker
Joe Copp and running back
Max Freeman IV, Cortland quarterback
Zac Boyes and cornerback
Joshua Cordero and Utica College place kicker
Corey Lichtman as Empire 8 student-athletes named to the D3football.com Team of the Week so far in 2022.
Morrisville is the lone Empire 8 team on bye this week, as they return to action on Oct. 22 vs. Alfred. League play continues on Saturday, Oct. 15, as No. 11/13 Cortland hosts Hartwick, Alfred hosts St. John Fisher and unbeaten Utica hosts SUNY Brockport.
