HOUGHTON, NY – The Hawks, who had already clinched a playoff spot, claimed the top seed in the upcoming Empire 8 tournament with a 5-1 win at Houghton on Saturday night. Hartwick improves to 8-0 in Empire 8 play.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Hartwick dominated from start to finish, outshooting the Highlanders 36 to 7.
- The Hawks put 23 of those shots on goal.
- Sydney Gagnon (Chestertown, N.Y.) got the visitors on the board first with a goal at the 3:21 mark in the 1st quarter. Leah Tolley (Pittsford, N.Y.) notched the assist.
- Houghton tied the score at 1-1 with a goal of their own at the 10:38 mark, but just over a minute later, Gagnon struck again with an unassisted goal to put Hartwick up 2-1.
- The Hawks notched a goal in each of the last three quarters to claim the 5-1.
- Gagnon scored her third goal of the game in the 2nd quarter with an assist from Holly Calore (Rocky Point, N.Y.).
- Lex Matarazzo (Commack, N.Y.) put one away early in the third with another Calore assist.
- With a hattrick under her belt, Gagnon added a fourth goal just 43 seconds into the final quarter to give the Hawks a 5-1 lead.
- Madison Maddocks (Garrison, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal for Hartwick, notching 5 saves across 60 minutes of work.
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
Hartwick will return home to face the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons in non-conference play on Tuesday at 4 PM before wrapping up their regular season on the road at Medaille on Saturday at 1 PM.
