Doubles Sweep Propels Hartwick to 6-3 Win over Alfred; Hawks Earn Empire 8 Regular Season Title

ALFRED, NY – The Hawks' doubles teams set the tone, giving the Hawks the early lead en route to a 6-3 win at Alfred on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Hartwick clinches at least a share of the 2022 Empire 8 Regular Season Championship and will be the top seed and earn the right to host the upcoming Empire 8 Tournament next weekend.

  • The sweep of all three doubles matches gave the Hawks the early advantage in their last regular season Empire 8 road contest of the fall.
  • The tandem of Maggie Van Valkenburgh (Highland, N.Y.) and Maddi Morrison (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) at 3rd doubles was the first to score for the Hawks as they defeated their opponent 8-1.
  • Damita Bollers (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Jade Killikelly (Jamaica, N.Y.) picked up an 8-4 win at 1st doubles and were the second to get on the board for Hartwick.
  • The 2nd doubles squad of Phoebe Olson (Jamestown, N.Dak.) and Lily Vanuga (Springville, N.Y.) wrapped up the sweep with an 8-4 win.
  • Killikelly and Olson finished their singles matches first to secure the five match wins needed to win the contest.
  • Killikelly defeated her 3rd singles opponent in straight sets 6-3, 6-2, while Olson did not drop a game at 2nd singles, winning 6-0, 6-0.
  • Vanuga gave Hartwick their 6th win of the afternoon at 6th singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
