Below are the Empire 8 Players of the Week, released on November 28, 2022, for games played from November 21-November 27. It is the 13th Empire 8 weekly honors release of the 2022-23 season. Sports featured include men’s and women’s basketball.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Bryan Adams, Elmira, So., G, Bronx, NY/Gunnery School
Adams, the reigning E8 Rookie of the Year was able to propel the Soaring Eagles to victory over Hilbert on Tuesday after exploding for 39 points, six rebounds, four assist, and three steals. His 39 points marked a new career-best, while Adams also shot an astonishing 12-of-17 from the floor (.706) and drained 11 shots from the charity stripe.
CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Brewster Marshall, Alfred, Gr., F, Horseheads, NY/Horseheads
Marshall showcased his versatility, going 5-of-7 from 3-point land as he finished with 29 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, three blocks and three assists in a dominant, 95-70 win over visiting Pitt.-Bradford on Tuesday. All of his stat lines, including eight defensive boards were team- and game-highs. Marshall was 10-for-16 from the field and 4-of-5 from the free throw line in only 29 minutes of play.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Jaylen Savage, Nazareth, Fr., G, Elmsford, NY/Alexander Hamilton
Savage exploded for a career-high 24 points in helping lead Nazareth to an 80-77 win over No. 5 Oswego State on Tuesday evening. Savage scored 13 of his 24 points in the second half, which included two clutch free throws with 1:03 remaining that gave Nazareth a 78-75 lead. He added three boards, two steals and one block.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Desiree Roy, Elmira, So., F, Stafford, VA/North Stafford
Roy helped propel the Soaring Eagles to a 4-0 start in 2022-23 after contributing 21 points and 13 rebounds in Elmira’s 59-44 win over Hilbert on Tuesday. Additionally, Roy added four assists on the offensive end, while defensively she was credited with four steals and four blocks.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Crysta Lacrosse, Houghton, Fr., G, Liberty Township, OH/Mt. Notre Dame
Lacrosse poured in a season-high 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the floor, while draining four 3-pointers in Houghton’s 80-47 win over Alfred State on Tuesday. Lacrosse also stuffed the stat sheet with five assists, four rebounds and two steals in 29 minutes of action as Houghton improved to 5-0 in 2022-23.
