Hartwick College senior forward
Sydney Gagnon (Chestertown, NY) was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) NCAA Division III All-American Second Team on Tuesday, December 13. This is Gagnon's first appearance on an All-American Team. In addition, she becomes only the 15th Hawk to be named a field hockey All-American and the first since 2004.
Gagnon was named the 2022 Empire 8 Player of the Year and garnered her fourth straight All-E8 first team honor. She led Hartwick to the 2022 Empire 8 Championship and finished the season as the league’s leading scorer with 18 goals, six assists and 42 points in 18 games. Of those 18 goals, two were game-winners, and two were off of penalty stroke attempts. Gagnon is a two-time E8 Player of the Week this season and scored a career-high four goals in a win over Houghton that clinched the E8 regular season title on Oct. 22.
Gagnon, who was also the 2019 E8 Rookie of the Year, has 43 career goals, 15 assists and 101 points in 60 games. She wrapped up her stellar collegiate career as a four-time Empire 8 First Team selection and a three-time Division III Region 3 First Team selection. The senior was also selected to participate in the NFHCA Senior Game and was a part of two Empire 8 Championship teams in 2019 and 2022.
