St. John Fisher University leads the 2022-23 Empire 8 Commissioner’s Cup standings, as the fall standings were announced on December 20. The Cardinals posted a 0.854 composite score, and lead second place Nazareth College by just under a tenth of a point following the fall season. The E8 will post updated Commissioner's Cup standings following the winter sports season and the final standings will be released in May after the completion of the spring sports campaign.

Five different institutions won E8 titles in the fall, with St. John Fisher, Nazareth and Hartwick College all winning a pair of league crowns apiece. For the complete E8 Commissioner's Cup standings, please see below.

The Cardinals earned a total of 59.75 points from their fall sports teams, with women’s cross country and women’s volleyball earning league titles, along with regular season titles in both men’s and women’s soccer. St. John Fisher qualified for the E8 postseason tournaments in four team sports, while finishing in the top half of the standings in seven of the eight fall sports.

Nazareth is currently in second place, with a percentage total of 0.758 on the strength of men’s cross country and women’s soccer titles in addition to runner-up finishes in women’s cross country and women’s tennis. Utica University is third overall with a percentage total of 0.686 after the top finish among core E8 institutions in football (program record 10 wins and a berth in the NCAA Tournament) and runner-up finishes in men’s and women’s soccer.

Houghton University is right behind Utica in fourth with a composite score of 0.659 on the strength of a runner-up finish in field hockey, third place finishes in both men’s and women’s cross country and postseason showings in women’s tennis and women’s volleyball. Hartwick College rounded out the top five with a percentage total of 0.636, as its women’s tennis and field hockey teams won Empire 8 titles and women’s volleyball finished as runner-up.

Alfred University, Russell Sage College, newcomer Medaille University, Keuka College and Elmira College round out the 2022-23 Empire 8 Commissioner’s Cup standings after the fall season. Medaille earned its first league title this fall, winning the 2022 Empire 8 Men’s Soccer Championship.

Commissioner’s Cup points are awarded based on each team's finish in the Empire 8 conference standings at the completion of the regular season and post-season. Points are awarded on a scale dependent upon the number of schools that sponsor the sport (affiliate members are not calculated into the point scale). A team's regular season finish will be added to its post-season finish and divided by two for the final total for that sport.

Teams tied for a position in the regular season standings are ranked based on tiebreaker scenarios. The actual number of points earned is then divided by the amount of possible points for each school based on conference-sponsored sports to determine their overall percentage.
