WEBSTER, NY – Graduate student Taylor Robey of Nazareth set an Empire 8 Championship record in the 50-yard freestyle on day two of the 2022 Empire 8 Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship, held in conjunction with the Allegheny Empire Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center on Thursday, February 17.
Robey won the 50-yard freestyle by nearly two seconds in an NCAA “B” cut and Empire 8 record time of 22.79 seconds. That time is just seven one-hundredths of a second shy of an NCAA “A” cut time and shatters the previous E8 record of 22.87 seconds, set by Laura Barito of Stevens in 2011.
Robey earned her second win of the night and third of the week, teaming with Abbie Santos, Julie Filipski and Paige Pasquarella to roll to a nearly six second win in the 200-yard freestyle relay, hitting the wall in 1:36.67.
Santos also earned her second straight E8 title in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:13.37.
Nazareth earned a 1-2-3 sweep in the 1-meter diving event. Alexa Rizzo emerged victorious with a score of 473.85 to defeat teammate Elizabeth Tripp, who had 458.85 points and two-time defending champion Allie Norwood placed third with 450.15 points.
Hartwick’s Allie Baird led a 1-2 finish with Joelle Ocheltree for the Hawks in the 500-yard freestyle relay in a time of 5:14.64.
The three-time defending champion Golden Flyers extended their team lead to nearly 250 points after day two with 493 points. Hartwick is second with 244.5 points, while Alfred University is third with 217.5 points. Utica College is fourth overall with 90.5 points.
