WEBSTER, NY – Nazareth College rolled to its fourth straight league title, as the Golden Flyers earned the 2022 Empire 8 Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship, held in conjunction with the Allegheny Empire Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center came to a close on Saturday, February 19.
The Golden Flyers went wire-to-wire in scoring two times more points than rest of the field, recording 1,154 points. Hartwick was the runner-up with second with 574 points, while Alfred University placed third with 517 points. Utica College was fourth overall with 320 points.
Nazareth won five of the seven events on the final day of competition. Taylor Robey, who won her second Empire 8 Swimmer of the Meet honor broke the Empire 8 Championship record in winning the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 50.54 seconds, shattering the previous mark of 50.84 set in 2009.
Robey also teamed with Julie Filipski, Abbie Santos and Paige Pasquarella to take the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:33.78.
The two wins tonight gave Robey 19 Empire 8 Championship meet wins in her storied career.
Nazareth diver Allie Norwood won the 3-meter event with a score of 477.65. She earned her third Empire 8 Diver of the Meet honor for her efforts, as she also placed third in the 1-meter event Thursday.
Nazareth’s Grace Cioffi won her second E8 title in the 200-yard butterfly, hitting the wall first in a time of 2:15.87. Filipski continued the tremendous run for Nazareth, taking the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:27.06.
Hartwick’s Bree Dy earned her second individual victory of the week, this time in the 200-yard backstroke, as she touched the wall first in a time of 2:27.06. Joelle Ocheltree recorded a win in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 18:18.64

Robey and Norwood were also named Allegheny Empire Championship Swimmer and Diver of the Meet, respectively, while Nazareth head coach Chris Heckman was named Coach of the Meet.
