PITTSFORD, NY – Fresh off becoming the 27th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points, junior Daniel Cook of the St. John Fisher College men's basketball team was applauded for his work in the classroom fter being one of just five players from across New York State to be named Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
A marketing major with a 3.47 grade-point average, Cook is among the top forwards in the country after being named to the Bevo Francis Top 100 Watch List by Small College basketball earlier this year.
A D3hoops.com Preseason All-American this season, Cook, who was named the Player of the Year by the Empire 8 a season ago, leads the team and the Empire 8 in scoring at 19.3 points per game and rebounding at 10.3 on average. A force on the low block, Cook, who will enter postseason play with 17 double-doubles over 25 starts, ranks sixth among all players in the Empire 8 in field goal percentage at .513 while his 1.2 blocks per game are the seventh-most of any player in the league this season.
The Honeoye Falls native has proven to be a scoring machine for Fisher. Through 25 games this year, Cook has scored 25 points or more five times including a career-high 47-point performance in which he set a program record for most point scored in a single game and another for most field goals in a game with 17.
With Cook on the floor, the Cardinals lead the conference in scoring at nearly 84 points per game and rebounding at 43.5 on average while the team is fourth in scoring defense as it has allowed just under 70 points per contest through the regular season.
