Alfred University, Hartwick College, Houghton College, Nazareth College, Russell Sage College, St. John Fisher and Utica College will compete at the two-day 2021-22 Empire 8 Men’s Indoor Track and Field Championships starting at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, February 25 from the Todd and Jen Hutton Sports and Recreation Center on the campus of Utica. St. John Fisher will look to earn its third straight Empire 8 Championship. Day two action will begin on Saturday, February 26 at 10:30 a.m.

2021-22 Empire 8 Team Capsules (Order Based on 2021 Championship Finish)
Two-time defending champion St
. John Fisher is looking for its fifth Empire 8 crown in 2022, having also won in 2014-15, 2017-18 and 2019-20 and 2021. The Cardinals enter the meet with the current top performer in four of 16 events. Graduate student Kyle Rollins returns as the three-time defending Empire 8 Indoor Field Athlete of the Year. Rollins is the national leader in the high jump (2.17 meters) and is third nationally in the triple jump (14.88 meters). He is the four-time defending league champion in the high jump, has three straight long jump titles and is looking to earn his third consecutive triple jump title. Jonah Dean, the Empire 8’s defending champion in both the 200- and 400-meters, will look to score big points in the sprint events. Ryan Allen, Peter Briggs and Myles Andersen will contend in the 800-meters, while Andrew Ford is the No. 2 seed in the mile and 3,000-meters. Ethan Billings is the top-seed in the 5,000-meters and No. 3 seed in the 3,000-meters. Matthew Carr and Jordan Kostera are among the E8 leaders in the pole vault, while Ivan Lopez-Testilliano and Matthew Stasiw will contend in the jumps. Joe Jerkovich, William Corwin and Jack Bickford give the Cardinals a strong trio in the throws.
Nazareth is looking for its first Empire 8 indoor track and field title after earning runner-up honors in 2021. Kaleb Luton is ranked seventh nationally in the 60-meter hurdles and is also the Empire 8’s top-seed in the long jump and No. 3 seed in the triple jump. Connor McCauslin will look to defend his Empire 8 titles in both the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles. He is currently seeded third in the 60-meter dash and is second behind Luton in the 60-meter hurdles. Ben Lewis and Mike Welch will look to score key points for the Golden Flyers in both the 200- and 400-meter dash events. Nathan Bowers, the 2019 E8 Cross Country Rookie of the Year, enters the meet as the E8’s top seed in the 800-meters, mile and 3,000-meters. In addition, he is the defending Empire 8 Champion in the 5,000-meter run. The Golden Flyers have a deep group of distance runners, including Nate McNally, Matt Reimann and Ethan Glashauer who will also be top contenders in 3,000- and 5,000-meters. Josh Pomerleau enters the championship as the top-seed in the pole vault, while Nicholas Read is seeded third. Matt Johnson will look to join Luton as high point scorers in the jumping events. Junior Chris Perez is not only the No. 1 seed in the weight throw but is ranked inside the top-50 nationally in the event.
Utica will be a strong contender to earn the E8 crown in 2022 on its home turf. Second-year sprinter Daijon Richards, the 2021 E8 Outdoor Track and Field Rookie of the Year, is the top-seed in the 60-meter dash and third seed in the 200-meter dash. Junior Zuriel Wright, the 2019-20 E8 Indoor Track Rookie of the Year is nationally-ranked in the high jump and will also be a strong contender in the long and triple jump events, along with teammates Josh Washington and Sei Sei. Hayden Lohmann and Michael Roberts will look to score points in the middle distance events. The Pioneers have a bevy of prolific throwers, including Hunter Logan, who is ranked seventh nationally in the shot put, along with Antwan Kelly, Arthur Bittel, Jacob Barnes, Justin Swavely, Billie Mays III and Jacob Barnes, who are also among the current E8 leaders in both events. Bittel is the defending E8 Champion in the shot put.
Houghton will look for a top-three team finish. First-year sprinter Malcolm Smith is seeded second in the 200-meters, fourth in the 60-meters and sixth in the 400-meter dash. Jack Howard and Brennan Lewandowski can provide a spark for the Highlanders. Lewandowski is also a standout high jumper, while Jon Burns is a strong contender in the 60-meter hurdles. Dave Russo, Seth Greene and Dillon Bell are a strong trio of distance runners who will look to score key points for the Highlanders. Houghton’s 4 x 400-meter relay enters the championship as the No. 3 seed. Malachi Yeager is also a contender in the pole vault, long jump and shot put, while Gavin Luckey will look to score points in the jumps as well.
Russell Sage is in its second season as an indoor track and field program and is making tremendous strides early on. First-year standout David Adadjo enters the championship as the top-seed in both the 200- and 400-meters and is also a candidate to score points in the 60-meters and triple jump. Dominic Nova, the 2021 Empire 8 Indoor Track and Field Rookie of the Year, is seeded third in the mile run. Zakh Chowdhury will contend in the jumps. Junior thrower John Coddington is seeded second in the shot put and third in the weight throw and will be a strong contender in both events.
Alfred enters the 2022 Empire 8 Championship looking to improve off of last season’s fifth place finish. Neil Peters, Steven Jackson, Kalum Holbrook, John Wendt, Pap Dioum, Steven Morrow and George Mecca will look to excel in the sprint events, while Mecca, Kyle Jenkins, Chris Mayo and Kyle Full can contribute in the middle-distance races. Peters, Dioum and Holbrook will vie for points in the jumps, while Hans Goodnow is Alfred’s top pole vaulter. Kenneth Berlin and Andrew Parnapy can contend for points in the throws.
Hartwick is back in the Empire 8 Championship field after opting out of competition last spring. The Hawks will have a handful of student-athletes looking to contend for individual titles, including Joseph Catalano in the 400-meters, Sean Waltman in the 60-meter hurdles, Caleb Malery in the 5,000-meters and Ross Arvin in the shot put.
