St. John Fisher Holds Slim Lead After Friday at 2022 Empire 8 Indoor Track and Field Championship

St. John Fisher College holds a slight lead after Friday’s action at the 2022 Empire 8 Men’s Indoor Track and Field Championship, held at the Todd and Jen Hutton Sport and Recreation Center, hosted by Utica University.
 
The Cardinals, who are looking for their third straight league title, have 74 team points, five ahead of Nazareth. Host Utica is third overall with 40 points.
 
Graduate student Kyle Rollins, the three-time defending Empire 8 Indoor Field Athlete of the Meet and Year, won his third straight title in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 7.10 meters, just shy of the championship meet record.
 
Matthew Carr of St. John Fisher took the pole vault, clearing 4.05 meters, while Andrew Ford rallied to win the mile in a time of 4:26.25. Teammate Ethan Billings took the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:40.07.
 
Hunter Logan of Utica, who is among the top throwers in the nation, won the shot put with a toss of 16.19 meters.
 
Nazareth won a pair of events on Friday. The distance medley relay team of Ethan Kenyon, Joseph Nettles, Patrick Healy, Lucas Sharron emerged victorious in a time of 11:00.48, while Matt Johnson took the 400-meter dash in 51.21 seconds.
