Nazareth College juniors Nathan Bowers and Nathan McNally, along with St. John Fisher College senior Grant Stokoe earned 2021 NCAA Division III All-Academic Individual honors, announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Overall, there were 248 men from 91 different institutions who were named All-Academic Individuals in NCAA Division III during the 2021 season. In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.
Bowers, a biology major, earned his second consecutive All-Empire 8 first team honor by placing second overall for the second straight year at the 2021 Empire 8 Championships. He placed 18th overall at the 2021 NCAA Division III Atlantic Region Championship to earn All-Region honors. Bowers, a native of Endicott, NY, recorded a season-best time of 25:39.6 over 8,000-meters at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University.
McNally, a native of Ogdensburg, NY, garnered his third consecutive All-Empire 8 first team honor by placing third overall at the 2021 Empire 8 Championships, while recording a personal best time of 25:46.7 over the 8,000-meter course. A history major, McNally placed 18th overall at the 2021 NCAA Division III Atlantic Region Championship to earn All-Region honors.
Stokoe, a native of Cortland, NY, was named the 2021 Empire 8 Runner of the Year honor after winning his second straight Empire 8 Championship at the Washington County Fairgrounds on Oct. 30 by just over three seconds in an impressive time of 25:39.5 over the 8,000-meter distance. Two weeks later on Nov. 13, Stokoe, a sustainability major, finished 16th overall at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championship hosted by SUNY Geneseo to earn All-Atlantic Region honors. Stokoe, who also won the Terry Rodenbeck Early Season Invitational on Sept. 3 and was runner-up at the Houghton Highlander Invitational on Oct. 9, was a six-time Empire 8 Runner of the Week in 2021.
