Nazareth College Director of Athletics Peter Bothner will serve on the NCAA Division III Advisory Council, effective immediately.
The Advisory Council is an advisory group to the Division III Presidents Council. Its role and charge is to focus on implementation strategies for new constitutional requirements and management of the membership review of current policies, initiatives and bylaws. In January, the NCAA approved a revised version of the NCAA Constitution, which will result in legislative proposals to revise the Division III Constitution.
“I am really excited to serve on the NCAA Division III Advisory Council,” said Bothner, who is in his 24th season at Nazareth. “It is an honor to serve at the national level, especially during such an important time with the unveiling of the updated NCAA Constitution. I am proud to represent Nazareth College, the Empire 8 and all of our student-athletes.”
“Pete will be an excellent representative of Empire 8 on the Advisory Council,” said Empire 8 Commissioner Chuck Mitrano, who just began a two-year term as Division III Championships Committee Chairperson. “The future of Division III is being charted in the coming months and it will be critical that our membership has strong representation in that process. Pete’s extensive experience, trust amongst conference peers and collaborative leadership will be a tremendous asset for Empire 8.”
Since arriving at Nazareth in 1998, Bothner has overseen dramatic growth in a department that now includes 26 intercollegiate sports teams. Among the recent developments under Bothner's watch was the 2019 grand opening of the Golisano Training Center, a 108,000-square foot facility that doubles as a state-of-the-art venue for Nazareth athletics and the Special Olympics. Bothner has served on several committees at Nazareth -- both regional and national. He was president of the Empire 8 Conference for three years and was a member of the NCAA men's lacrosse selection committee.
