The Empire 8 Conference announced its 2021-22 Women’s Basketball Championship All-Tournament Team on Tuesday, March 1. St. John Fisher College senior guard Amy Gardner was named Empire 8 Tournament Most Valuable Player after leading the Cardinals to their sixth league title on February 26. Gardner averaged 9.5 points, 5.0 assists and 4.5 steals per game, while playing lockdown defense in the two tournament games. She scored 14 points in St. John Fisher’s 83-52 win over Nazareth in the Empire 8 Championship game. Fellow St. John Fisher standout Claire Kruszka joined Gardner on the All-Tournament Team after scoring 19 points, including five made 3-pointers in the championship game.
Jadyn Abrams averaged 16.0 points per game, while shooting 11-for-11 from the foul line for runner-up Nazareth College to earn All-Tournament Team accolades for the second straight season. Maggie Kirby of Hartwick College and Syrita Faraj of Russell Sage College were also named to the All-Tournament Team. Kirby recorded a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds in the E8 Semifinal versus Nazareth, while Faraj averaged 17.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in a pair of tournament games.
