Empire 8 women’s basketball standouts Jadyn Abrams of Nazareth College and Claire Kruszka of St. John Fisher College earned 2021-22 D3hoops.com All-Region 3 honors on Tuesday, March 15. Abrams earned first team accolades, while Kruszka was a second team selection.
Abrams, a native of Bath, NY, garnered her second straight Empire 8 Player of the Year accolade in 2021-22. The senior guard/forward, who was previously a 2018-19 and 2019-20 All-Empire 8 second team selection and 2021 first team pick, enjoyed another strong season for the Golden Flyers, averaging a league-best 16.2 points per game to go along with 5.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game. She led the league in 3-point shooting, while converting a league-best 89.4 percent of her attempts from the foul line and scored in doubles figures 23 times this season. In addition, Abrams was named to the Empire 8 Women’s Basketball Championship All-Tournament Team for the second straight season. Abrams has 1,340 career points and is an 85 percent shooter from the foul line in four seasons with the Golden Flyers.
Kruszka, the 2021 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year, earned All-E8 first team accolades in 2021-22, led the Cardinals in scoring, averaging 12.1 points per game, while grabbing 4.7 rebounds and dishing out 3.7 assists per contest. She also made 56 shots from 3-point range and her 52 steals paced the Cardinals. The Lake View, NY native was named to three All-Tournament Teams this season and was a major part of Fisher's 26-win season – its most since 1995. With Kruszka on the floor, Fisher won the Empire 8 Regular Season title and went on to win its sixth Empire 8 Championship crown. In doing so, the Cardinals earned the program's 16th trip to the NCAA Championship where they advanced to the Round of 32 after defeating Rhode Island College.
