After a one year hiatus, the Empire 8 Conference is set to hold its annual Student-Athlete Leadership Summit on Friday, March 25 and Saturday, March 26, 2022 from Woodcliff Hotel and Spa in Fairport, NY. Jen Fry of Jen Fry Talks is the keynote speaker for the event.
This year’s Summit is once again focused on bringing together members of the higher education community from around the conference (student-athletes, Administrators, Coaches and Vice-Presidents) in a fun and educational environment away from campus.
Fry runs JenFryTalks, LLC, which is a social justice education firm that uses conversation to educate and empower those within athletics through an anti-racist lens on issues of race, inclusion, intersectionality, diversity, and equity. We facilitate dialogue with small and large groups, athletic departments, athletic teams, staff, administrations, schools, affinity groups, identity groups, and much more. We use our anti-racist lens to advise on best practices that will create equitable searches, hiring, onboarding practices, methods of retaining staff, retaining student-athletes, supporting student-athletes, staff and coaches, and community building.
Fry is a veteran volleyball coach with over 15 years of experience at the collegiate level with coaching stints at Elon University, University of Illinois - 2011 National Runner-up, Washington State University, and Norfolk State University.
“We are very excited to be able to hold the E8 Student-Athlete Summit in person this year,” said Joe Venniro, Empire 8 Associate Commissioner. “Jen is a tremendous communicator who will provide valuable insight for our student-athletes and administrators, who in turn will be able to take these conversations back to their campuses and SAAC departments. It will be great to bring everyone from all of our member institutions together for a fun two-day event.”
In addition to the presentations, the student-athletes will also complete an NCAA DISC leadership assessment, participate in the Minute-to-Win-it challenge and each school will be making their donation of Pop Tabs to the Ronald McDonald House.
