ROCHESTER, NY – With a new personal, facility, and meet record height of 2.20 meters, Kyle Rollins tied the third-best mark in the high jump in NCAA Division III history on Saturday afternoon's final day of the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Indoor Championship at the Golisano Training Center on the campus of Nazareth College.
A graduate student and two-time national champion in the event, Rollins passed on the first four heights, before clearing 2.02 meters, 2.05 meters, and 2.08 meters on his first attempts at each height. He then took two attempts to clear 2.13 meters, then took a stab at 2.18 meters – a mark which he had not yet achieved in his career. However, after failing the first two attempts, he pushed the height to 2.20 meters and used the rhythm of the crowd cheering him on to clear the height on his first attempt.
He now joins elite Division III company by surpassing the mark, joining Dan Olson (Wheaton [Mass.]), Al Winsley (Mississippi College) and Stefan Duvivier (Tufts) as those in national history to clear the height – a feat which has not been accomplished since 2018. Additionally, just Kym Orr (Fredonia, 2.21 meters) and Ken Hoffman (St. Olaf, 2.22 meters) stand between Rollins and the pinnacle of the Division III all-time leader board.
Additionally, teammate Matthew Stasiw placed 10th in the long jump at the championship, where he eclipsed a mark of 6.59 meters on his third and final attempt at the line.
Looking ahead, Kyle will travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina this upcoming weekend (March 11th and 12th) to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championship.
