The St. John Fisher College duo of senior Andrew Ford and graduate student Kyle Rollins earned Empire 8 Championship individual honors, as the Empire 8 Conference announced its 2021-22 Men’s Indoor Track & Field All-Conference selections on Monday, March 7.
Ford was named the 2022 Empire 8 Indoor Championship Track Athlete of the Meet in helping lead the Cardinals to their third straight Empire 8 team title from Utica University on February 25-26. He won a pair of individual events on Friday, including the mile run in a time of 4:26.25 and 3,000-meters, crossing the finish line in 8:51.40.
Rollins led the way for the Cardinals, winning all three jumping events to earn 2022 Empire 8 Indoor Field Athlete of the Meet honors for the fourth consecutive season. On Friday, Rollins took the long jump with a personal best leap of 7.10 meters and on Saturday, won his fifth straight high jump crown, clearing an Empire 8 Championship meet record 2.09 meters, while annexing the triple jump, leaping 14.23 meters. He was also the 2018 Rookie of the Year.
To be named an E8 All-Conference selection, a student athlete must have finished in the top three of an event at the Conference's Championship Meet, which was held on February 25-26 from the Todd and Jen Hutton Recreation Center on the campus of Utica University. Winners of the event are named to the First Team, while the Second Team is comprised of the runner-up from each event and Third Team is given to the third place finisher.
The Empire 8 Track Athlete, Field Athlete, Rookie and Coach of the Year will be announced after the NCAA Championships in mid-March.
