Houghton junior middle distance runner Amanda Burrichter and Nazareth junior jumper/sprinter Sarah Merriwether earned Empire 8 Championship individual honors, as the Empire 8 Conference announced its 2021-22 Women’s Indoor Track & Field All-Conference selections on Tuesday, March 8.
Burrichter was named 2022 Empire 8 Indoor Track Athlete of the Championship Meet held Utica University on February 25-26. She swept the mile and 3,000-meter run championships for the second straight season. Burrichter won the mile in 5:19.97 and took the 3,000-meters in 10:28.15.
Merriwether earned Empire 8 Championship Field Athlete of the Meet honors at the 2022 Indoor Championship after placing second overall in the triple jump (11.04 meters), third in the high jump (1.56 meters) and fifth in the long jump (5.16 meters).
To be named an E8 All-Conference selection, a student athlete must have finished in the top three of an event at the Conference's Championship Meet, which was held on February 25-26 from the Todd and Jen Hutton Recreation Center on the campus of Utica University. Winners of the event are named to the First Team, while the Second Team is comprised of the runner-up from each event and Third Team is given to the third place finisher.
The Empire 8 Track Athlete, Field Athlete, Rookie and Coach of the Year will be announced after the NCAA Championships in mid-March.
