St. John Fisher College expanded its lead to 18 strokes after the third round of the 2021-22 Empire 8 Men’s Golf Championship from Hershey Country Club in Hershey, PA on April 15. Final round action gets underway at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 16.
Scores from the fall portion of the Empire 8 Championship, which was held at Timber Banks Golf Club in Baldwinsville, NY on October 2-3 will be combined with scores from rounds three and four this weekend to determine team and individual awards.
The 2021-22 Empire 8 Men’s Golf Team Champion earns an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Championship, which will take place May 10-13 at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL.
St. John Fisher holds an 18-stroke lead (950) over Oswego State (968). The Cardinals finished one stroke ahead of the Lakers in round three action. Defending E8 champion Utica University is third heading into the final day of action with a team score of 985 strokes. Russell Sage College, Elmira College, Nazareth College and Keuka College are also in action.

Ryan Fecco holds a four-stroke lead for the individual championship, at +17 over par (231) after the first three rounds. Fecco fired the lowest round through the wind and tricky conditions on Friday with a seven-over round of 77. First-year

Matt McGaugh is third, 10 strokes off the lead. McGaigh had the second best round on Friday, firing a 78.

AWARDS: The Empire 8 champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship. The top five scorers at the end of the tournament will earn first-team all-conference honors with the next five finishers being named to the second team. Finishers 11-15 will earn third team accolades. The individual with the lowest four-round score will be named Empire 8 Player of the Year, while the lowest scoring first-year student-athlete will earn Empire 8 Rookie of the Year honors.
THE COURSE: The Hershey Country Club was founded by iconic chocolate entrepreneur Milton S. Hershey in 1930. The club has grown since its founding, as the private club now features three separate pristine 18-hole courses. The E8 Championship will feature the club's East Course, which opened in 1969 and lays claim to over 100 bunkers scattered throughout the rolling fairways. The club and its expansive views have welcomed some of the sport's all-time greats, including Byron Nelson, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer.
