After being named the Empire 8's Player of the Week on Monday, junior Ben Lavery of the St. John Fisher College baseball team received national praise on Wednesday afternoon after being selected to D3baseball.com's Team of the Week.
Over four games last week, Lavery accounted for eight hits in 14 at-bats including two doubles and a team-leading four home runs as the Clifton Park native batted .571 overall on the week. The outfielder drove in a career-high 13 runs on the week and crossed home plate nine times as Fisher outscored its opposition 71-9.
Lavery finished the week slugging a whopping 1.571 and had an on-base percentage well over .600 after drawing a pair of walks and being hit by a pitch.
In a two-game sweep of Utica University, Lavery was 5-for-9 with a double, two homers and nine RBI before coming away with three more hits, four more RBI, a double and two more home runs in a sweep of Elmira College on Friday.
Lavery and the rest of the baseball team will look to keep it rolling as the Cardinals travel to Albany to take on Russell Sage College at 1 p.m. on Friday in an Empire 8 doubleheader.
