For the second consecutive week, the St. John Fisher College baseball team has had a player receive national attention as Connor McHugh was named to D3baseball.com's Team of the Week on Tuesday following two dominant outings last week.
Over 10.0 combined innings, McHugh, who was named the Empire 8's Pitcher of the Week on Monday, was nearly flawless as the junior went 2-0 on the mound and yielded just two hits in all. McHugh, who did not let in a run all week, finished with nine combined strikeouts and held opposing hitters to a paltry .063 batting average.
Against Elmira College last Wednesday, the left-hander pitched three innings and fanned four before throwing a complete-game shutout four days later at Russell Sage College. McHugh held the Gators to one hit and finished with five strikeouts on his line.
McHugh and the rest of the baseball team will return to the diamond at 1 p.m. on Saturday when they travel to Keuka College to take on the Wolves in an Empire 8 doubleheader.
