First-year field hockey standout Lydia Coombs of Nazareth College will represent the Empire 8 on the NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as an associate member. Her two-year appointment will run through January, 2024.

Coombs, who is completing her freshman year at Nazareth, played in all 17 games as a defender for the Golden Flyers in 2021. A native of Jamesville, NY, Coombs, who also serves on Nazareth’s SAAC, holds a spectacular 3.93 grade-point average as biochemistry major. She was named to the prestigious Empire 8 President’s List for the Fall 2021 semester for her strong work in the classroom.

"I am truly honored to be selected as the SAAC representative of the Empire 8 conference at the national level,” said Coombs. “There is a great deal of reform needed to emphasize the importance of the student-athlete voice. I'm beyond excited to work with our team to improve all aspects of the student-athlete experience.”

The mission of the National Student-Athlete Advisory Committees is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare and fostering a positive student-athlete image.

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) represents the Division III student-athlete voice in the Division III governance structure by reviewing legislation; identifying significant student-athlete issues; implementing national student-athlete based initiatives; encouraging community outreach; and enhancing Division III student-athlete involvement in and understanding of Division III in general.  The SAAC is also the committee that is primarily responsible for maintaining and coordinating the division’s nationwide partnership with Special Olympics.
