The Empire 8 Conference announced its 2022 Empire 8 Softball Championship All-Tournament Team on Wednesday, May 11. Sophomore pitcher Megan Bennett of Alfred University was named the Empire 8 Tournament Most Valuable Player after leading Alfred to its second consecutive league title. Bennett won two games, including the clincher for the Saxons over St. John Fisher and earned one save during the tournament. She did not allow a run and struck out 14 batters in 10 innings of action.
Bennett picked up the win in relief, striking out four batters in two innings in Alfred’s E8 Tournament opener, a 4-3 win over Nazareth on May 5. The following morning, Bennett struck out three batters in two hitless innings of relief to earn the save in a win over St. John Fisher. In Saturday afternoon’s winner-take-all championship against St. John Fisher, Bennett scattered five hits and struck out seven batters to earn the shutout over six innings in a 9-0 win. Bennett was one of four Alfred student-athletes to earn All-Tournament Team honors.
