HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, FL – The St. John Fisher College men's golf team closed out its season on Wednesday as the Cardinals were one of 25 teams that did not make the final cut (+45) on the second day of the NCAA Championship at Mission Inn Resort. Fisher, which played its second round at the par-71 Las Colinas course, shot a combined team score of 326 (+42) on Wednesday to finish the tournament tied for 35th place at +80 over 36 holes.
With 36 holes still remaining before a national champion is crowned, Methodist leads the field at +9 (581) while Carnegie Mellon is six back at +15. Hampden-Sydney is third at +17 while Huntingdon College (+21) is in fourth and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps is tied with Washington and Lee for fifth at +26.
After beginning the day in a tie for 37th place, Bryce Barber was six-over through his first four holes on Wednesday before settling in and going one-under over the next eight holes to finish at +10 on the day at +13 overall – good for a tie for 80th place.
Luke Buckley was three over on the back nine before closing out his round at +1 on the front to finish the day with a 75. Over 36 holes, Buckley was 17-over and tied for 124th place on the individual leaderboard.
Nicholas Tellone carded an 82 on Wednesday and finished his time at the NCAA Championship tied for 170th place at +23 while Matthew McGaugh and RJ Juodaitis placed 190th and 196th, respectively, at +29 and +31.
The Cardinals wrapped up the 2021-22 season having claimed their 17th Empire 8 Championship in all and 10th in the last 11 seasons after winning the conference crown by 26 strokes. Barber was named the league's Player and Rookie of the Year while four others were named All-Conference following their individual performances.
