St. John Fisher College junior outfielder Allie Klonowski and Alfred University senior infielder/outfielder Allison O'Toole were named to the 2022 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Softball Team.
As CoSIDA Academic All-District selections, Klonowski and O'Toole will advance to the 2022 Academic All-America ballot, which will be released in June. To be considered, a student-athlete must be a sophomore and have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30. Nominees must also make a significant impact on their team's success on the field of play. Klonowski and O'Toole are among 14 student-athletes honored from Region III, which encompasses all colleges and universities in New York, that will advance to the Academic All-America ballot.
Klonowski, a junior center fielder from Buffalo, NY, was crowned the E8 Co-Player of the Year after helping the Cardinals win a share of the conference's regular-season title while finishing as E8 Championship finalists. She ranked among the top players in the E8 in nearly every hitting category with a .414 average, .828 slugging percentage, 12 home runs, and 39 RBIs. With a dozen homers, Klonowski finished third in program single-season history.
In the classroom, Klonowski is a Legal Studies major with a 3.58 grade-point average.
O'Toole, a senior business administration major from Simi Valley, CA, earned the honor designated to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom for the second straight season.
O'Toole led the Saxons in sacrificed hits and fly balls this season, successfully laying down 10 sacrificed bunts and driving in two runs with fly balls. She totaled 22 hits with six doubles, two triples and one home run while driving in 15 runs and crossing home plate 18 times herself. Defensively, she had 49 putouts and 31 assists, playing both the infield and outfield. O'Toole was recently named to the 2022 NCAA Division III Softball Union Regional All-Tournament Team and earned All-Empire 8 Second Team accolades.
