The Empire 8 Conference announced its 2022 Empire 8 Baseball Championship All-Tournament Team on Wednesday, May 18. Graduate student Michael Beimel of St. John Fisher was named the Empire 8 Tournament Most Valuable Player after leading the Cardinals to their second straight league title and fourth in program history.
Beimel batted .500 (5-for-10) with four RBI and three runs scored, while catching all 18 innings, as the Cardinals swept the best-of-three championship series over Utica from Dugan Yard on May 13 by scores of 14-3 and 9-2. Beimel saved his best for last in game two, going 4-for-5 with a double, run scored and four RBI. Overall, Beimel hit .500 (12-for-24) during the Empire 8 Tournament with nine runs scored and eight RBI to go along six doubles and two walks in five games. Beimel was one of four St. John Fisher student-athletes to earn All-Tournament Team honors.
