The Elmira College and St. John Fisher University women’s volleyball teams earned the United States Marine Corps (USMC)/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2021-22 season.
A total of 1,213 teams from NCAA, NAIA, Two-Year Colleges and high school organizations earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2020-21 season. A total of 212 Division III women’s volleyball programs received Team Academic honors.
Elmira garnered the presigious accolade for the tenth straight season and 15th in program history. St. John Fisher now has eight straight AVCA All-Academic Team honors and 14 overall.
“Academic achievement does not happen by accident,” said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. “I’m so proud of the hundreds of coaching staffs that make excellence in the classroom a priority.”
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.
St. John Fisher also garnered AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll accolades for posting one of the top 50 team GPAs in Division III during the 2021-22 season.
