The Empire 8 Conference is proud to announce the creation of a pair of features series, which will run on opposite Fridays during the 2022-23 season. The Empire 8 “Pioneers” series will kick off on Sept. 23, while the “Captains” series begins on Sept. 30.
The Empire 8 Pioneers series will celebrate 50 years of Title IX and feature a female coach or administrator from each of the 10 Empire 8 institutions. The selected coach/administrator will discuss how college athletics has changed for women over the last 50 years and the impact Title IX has made on them. Empire 8’s Captains series will feature one student-athlete in a leadership role from each institution and focus on how being in that role has helped them as a student-athlete and person in addition to preparing for life after college.
"Both the Pioneers and Captains series encompass the Empire 8’s hallmark of leadership and passion for Division III athletics,” said Empire 8 Associate Commissioner
Joe Venniro. “We are proud to celebrate 50 years of Title IX, while featuring several of our great female coaches and administrators who have played a vital role in our league’s success. The student-athletes showcased are emerging leaders who will continue to shine long after their playing days are over.”
Both the Pioneers and Captains series will be featured on the conference's website and social media platforms over the next four months. The conference will also be using the #E8Pioneers and #E8Captains hashtags on its Twitter and Instagram platforms as a way for fans to follow along with the series.
