The Alfred University duo of junior linebacker
Joe Copp and sophomore running back
Max Freeman IV were named to the D3football.com Team of the Week on Tuesday, Sept. 27. This marks the fourth straight week an Empire 8 student-athlete has earned the weekly accolade.
Copp led Alfred with 11 tackles, including three sacks for a loss of 17 yards in a 31-23 win against Kalamazoo Saturday. Copp picked up nine solo tackles. Copp was credited with an additional tackle for a loss of 6 yards. Copp also finished with two crucial pass breakups.
Freeman rushed for a game-high and career-high 274 yards on 33 attempts (8.3 yards per carry) and two touchdowns during Saturday's Homecoming Day win, while adding four receptions from the backfield. Freeman scored on runs from the goal line in the first quarter and from a career-high 80 yards in the fourth quarter. His rushing yard total marked the third-most rushing yards in a single game in program history for Alfred University.

Alfred is the lone Empire 8 team on bye this week, as they return to action on Oct. 8 at Hartwick. League play kicks off on Saturday, Oct. 1, as Utica hosts Hartwick, No. 11/14 SUNY Cortland hosts Morrisville and SUNY Brockport hosts St. John Fisher in the annual Camp Good Days and Special Times Courage Bowl.
