Senior goalkeeper Sophia Trozzi of the St. John Fisher field hockey team was named the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Defenisve Player of the Week on Wednesday, Oct. 11 for games played Oct. 2-Oct. 8.
Trozzi, who was named the Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, went 2-0 last week, playing 117 total minutes while allowing just one goal and making 28 saves for a remarkable .966 save percentage. Trozzi began the week by stopping all 17 shots she faced in 56:35 of play in a win over SUNY Brockport. On Saturday, she added 11 more saves in a 6-1 victory over E8 foe Utica.
Trozzi has 109 saves and an .832 save percentage in 10 games this season. She has 28 career wins and 14 shutouts in four seasons with the Cardinals.
She is the second straight St. John Fisher student-athlete to earn NFHCA weekly accolades, joining teammate Emma Cooper, who earned the honor on Oct. 4.
The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. with a non-conference home contest vs. University of Rochester. It is St. John Fisher's Breast Cancer Awareness game.
