ONEONTA, NY – The St. John Fisher University women's volleyball team were on the road on Saturday to take on Hartwick College. The Hawks and Cardinals were the top-two teams in the Empire 8 Standings, but with the three-set victory, Fisher solidified themselves at the top. They now hold a 13-8 record, are 5-0 in conference and are riding a nine-match winning streak.

The first set was competitive to start with neither team holding a lead of more then a few points. With the Cardinals ahead 16-15, a string of errors by the Hawks was capped off by a Kiera Hartpence service ace that pushed the advantage to 21-15. Despite a comeback by Hartwick, kills by Delayne Young and Kaylene Noble secured the 25-20 win.

Fisher used that momentum to jump in front 4-0 in the second set, but Hartwick quickly responded and claimed a 6-4 advantage. The two teams began to trade points and runs until the 17-17 mark. A kill by Noble and ace by Isabella Mahar put the team ahead, 20-17 before a 4-0 run capped off the set thanks to kills by Noble and Kristen McIntosh. Fisher won the set 25-19 and were in front 2-0.

In the third and final set of the afternoon, the Cardinals took control early. They once again claimed a 4-0 advantage, but this time they did not let the Hawks back into the game. Kills by Ana Gutman, Olivia Nellis and McIntosh extended the lead to 10-5, before two separate 4-0 runs put Fisher in front 18-8. The teams traded off points the rest of the way until Nellis secured the final point and the win.

Noble secured 12 kills and eight digs on the day, while Young contributed eight kills of her own to go along with 12 digs. Reilly Morrow distributed 34 assists, while adding three kills and five digs.

Up next for is a home matchup against SUNY Morrisville on Tuesday, Oct. 17. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start time.
