On Saturday, October 28 the Nazareth field hockey team will hold its cancer awareness game when it hosts Sage at 1 p.m. on NLPA field. Nazareth will also honor the life of 2021 graduate, Mya Maloof ('21 UG, '23 GR), who passed away peacefully in her home on August 11, 2023 from cancer, surrounded by her loving family.

Maloof, of Weedsport, NY was a 4-year starter for the Golden Flyers from 2018-2021, playing in 62 career games. During her senior season, she served as a team captain and was an Empire 8 All-Conference selection.

She was a standout in the classroom, earning the Empire 8 President's List honors (3.75 GPA or higher) in multiple semesters. Maloof had just recently graduated with a Master of Science Degree from Nazareth. She loved the game of field hockey and wanted to follow the footsteps of the great coaches she had along the way by coaching a team one day.

Said head coach Tarah Christenson, "Mya was the truest of success stories at the collegiate level; a grass player out of high school from a small town." "Her work ethic was unmatched — she never cut corners. She was a consistent model for unparalleled discipline and just pure grit."

"Mya is in every nook and cranny here at Nazareth. We fully feel her presence. Mya's energy here is captivating, sunshine bright, sunflower so beautiful and infinitely all around us. Once a Flyer, always a Flyer. We will honor you always, Mya."

Prior to the game, the field hockey team will be honoring Mya with her family in attendance.

During the game donations will be collected for the Wilmot Cancer Center.
