Tessa Grover was named the GameChanger/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Division III Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2023 for games played Sept. 25-Oct. 1, 2023.
Grover, who was named the Empire 8 Women's Volleyball Player of the Week on Monday, excelled for Nazareth as the Golden Flyers opened Empire 8 play with a pair of three set wins. Against Elmira on the road Friday night, Grover recorded her nation's best fifth triple-double of the season with 14 kills (.619), 17 assists and 13 digs. The following day against Alfred, she recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 10 assists. For the week, she had 26 kills (4.33/set) and a .533 attack percentage (only two errors on 45 attempts), 27 assists (4.5/set) and 16 digs.
She is second among all Division III student-athletes with five triple-doubles this season. Grover, the 2021 E8 Rookie of the Year and a two-time All-E8 first team selection, is second in the E8 this season, averaging 4.24 points per set, fourth in kills per set (3.39) and is fifth in hitting percentage (.249). She is also averaging 3.51 assists 2.16 digs, 0.67 blocks and 0.45 service aces per set in 2023.
Grover is the second straight E8 student-athlete to earn the prestigious AVCA Division III weekly honor, joining
Eleanor Cepiel of Utica University, who was named last week
. Braelyn Hornick of Hartwick College earned the honor on Sept. 27, 2022. She becomes Nazareth’s second woman to win the AVCA National Player of the Week award, joining for Empire 8 Player of the Year and All-American Christa Downey on Oct. 28, 2002.
Nazareth (5-9, 2-0 Empire 8) is right back in action at home on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. against Empire 8 rival St. John Fisher University.
