SUNY Morrisville Seniors walk off Drake with 30-15 win over St. John Fisher on Senior Day

MORRISVILLE, NY – Host SUNY Morrisville football held visiting St. John Fisher University to just 68 net yards rushing Saturday, collecting the 30-15 Empire 8 victory on senior day in Morrisville in the home finale.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville football earned a 30-15 Empire 8 win Saturday over visiting St. John Fisher University, limiting the Cardinals to just 68 net yards rushing as they gave the seniors a victory in the home finale on Drake Field in Morrisville on senior day.
  • Fisher, who averages more than 200 yards per game in the running game, struggled to move the ball on the ground against the Mustangs defense, as the hosts held the visitors to a mere 2.5 yards gained per carry across the contest.
  • The Mustangs collected 144 yards of their own on the ground, led by Jordan Eveillard (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who pounded forward for 72-net yards on 13 carries.
  • Steve Frerichs (Wilson, N.Y.) added 52 to the Mustangs total, accounting for a rushing score, while connecting on 10-of-14 pass attempts for another 137 yards and three touchdown scores.
  • Four of Frerichs passes landed in the hands of Connor Marriott (Waterville, N.Y.) who recorded 65 yards receiving and a touchdown, while Jarrell Chaney (Albany, N.Y.) added 35 to go along with Quamel Jarvis' (Rochester, N.Y.) 30 yards and a touchdown score.
  • Xavier Gaines (Ponoma, N.Y.) had 10 yards on one reception.
  • Senior Darrius Fulton (Rochester, N.Y.) led the Mustangs defensive unit with 12 total tackles, with Evan Salvaggio (Geneseo, N.Y.) adding 11 to go along with a fumble recovery.
  • Barrett Masi (New Windsor, N.Y.) had 10 stops in the win, while Omar Jarvis (Rochester, N.Y.) collected a pick to go along with four stops, all solo tackles.
  • Fisher was first to put points up on the board as both teams battled back and forth in the opening quarter, completing the six play, 38-yard drive with a 27-yard field goal for the 3-0 lead at the 4:08 mark of the first.
  • Morrisville would respond late in the second quarter to send the game into the halftime period with a 7-3 host lead, as Frerichs hit Quamel Jarvis on the right for the 16-yard scoring pass to complete the nine-play drive that covered 70-yards.
  • After forcing Fisher to a three-and-out on the opening drive of the third, Morrisville's offense marched downfield, completing the drive with a 34-yard scoring strike to Marriott in the back corner of the end zone.
  • Fisher attempted to move the ball on the ensuing drive, but the long ball over middle was intercepted by Anai Brake (Carteret, N.J.), setting possession up for the Mustangs at midfield.
  • Within minutes Morrisville added to their lead to open the contest to a 21-3 host advantage, Frerichs hitting Gaines on the short pass to the right for the 10-yard score with 3:26 remaining in the frame.
  • Fisher moved the ball into Morrisville territory late in the third but was unable to steal points as Omar Jarvis picked off Aaron Chase a second time, this time in the endzone to return the ball to the Mustangs.
  • The Cardinals put together a scoring drive midway through the fourth to cut into the Mustang lead, and attempted the two-point conversion, but were stopped as Chase was swallowed up by the defensive line.
  • Morrisville added to their total with 2:06 remaining after Frerichs connected with Chaney for a 36-yard gain down to the Fisher two, before pounding the ball up middle for the rushing score.
  • Fisher was able to notch one final score before the end of the contest, but not without Morrisville's defense having a final strike as well, as Omar Jarvis blocked the kick attempt and Brake recovered for the 95-yard scoring two-point conversion.
  • Chase finished with 199-yards passing on 18-of-29 completions for Fisher, throwing two touchdowns and two interceptions, hitting Nate McGoldrick seven times for 75-yards.
  • Joe Miscia led the defensive efforts with 14 tackles.
