The 2023 NCAA Division III Cross Country Regionals are set for Saturday, Nov. 11. The Empire 8 will have six institutions competing at the Niagara Regional, and Russell Sage College competing at the Mideast Regional. The men’s races will begin at 11 a.m., with the women’s races following at 12 p.m.
The Niagara Regional is being held at Field of Dreams Park in Houghton, NY, hosted by 2023 Empire 8 men's cross country champion Houghton University, while the Mideast Regional will be held at Stanley Park in Westfield, MA, hosted by Westfield State University.
A total of 10 teams (one per regional) will automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Nov. 18. There will be 22 at-large teams selected by a committee that will be announced on Nov. 12.
A total of 70 individuals will automatically qualify for the national championship. The top-seven runners not from a qualifying team will be determined the top-seven qualifiers per region. Those qualifiers will also be confirmed and announced on Nov. 12.
The Houghton men’s program won its first E8 title on Oct. 28. The top-five finishing teams at the conference championship were: 1. Houghton (31), 2. Nazareth (44), 3. Utica (70), 4. St. John Fisher (71) and 5. Alfred (152). Utica first-year Bennett Melita won the Empire 8 individual crown over the 8,000-meter course..
The Nazareth women’s program won its first Empire 8 title on Oct. 28. The top-five finishing teams at the conference championship were: 1. Nazareth (34), 2. St. John Fisher (42), 3. Houghton (82), 4. Utica (127) and 5. Russell Sage (149). Houghton sophomore Noelle Linenfelser won the 6,000-meter title for the first time.
