Sophomore Martin Harguindey of Elmira College was selected to the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America® Men’s Soccer NCAA Division III Team, which recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Harguindey, a third team selection, is the seventh Academic All-America selection in Elmira's storied athletics history and first from the men's soccer program.
The 2023 Academic All-America® Men’s Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. In order to be eligible for both All-District and All-American consideration, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically, hold a 3.30 cumulative GPA or above and be a starter or important reserve for their respective teams.
Harguindey was named the 2023 Empire 8 Player of the Year. All five honorees earned Empire 8 first team accolades in 2023.
A native of Ituzaingo, Argentina, Harguindey enjoyed a tremendous season for the Soaring Eagles, who won their first Empire 8 Championship in program history this season. Previously named the Empire 8 Player of the Year and to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Team, Harguindey led all Empire 8 student-athletes in scoring with 28 points on 13 goals and two assists and tallied three game-winning goals. In league play. Harguindey had five goals and 12 points in eight games. He has also excelled in the postseason, scoring both Elmira goals in full time during the E8 Championship match.
In the classroom, Harguindey is a marketing major who sports a tremendous 3.94 grade-point average.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.
