Alfred University, Elmira College, Hartwick College and Nazareth University represented the Empire 8 Conference in the final Fall 2023 LEARFIELD Directors' Cup Standings. A total of 181 Division III institutions were represented this fall. Updated standings will be announced after the winter sports season is concluded.

The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.

Alfred, Elmira, Hartwick and Nazareth are all tied for 131st nationally after the fall season with 25 points apiece. Alfred claimed its first Empire 8 women's volleyball championship in program history and was the league's representative at the 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championships. Hartwick won its second straight E8 title and competed in the 2023 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championships, while Elmira won its first Empire 8 men's soccer crown and competed in the 2023 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championships. Nazareth competed in the 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championships after winning its third straight league title.

Overall, Alfred was the lone institution to win multiple league titles this fall. In addition to the women's volleyball title, the Alfred women’s tennis team won the 2023 Empire 8 Championship and will compete in the NCAA Championship Tournament in May, 2024.

SUNY Cortland, who competes primarily as a member of the SUNYAC, was the Empire 8 Champion in football and won the 2023 Stagg Bowl and were crowned NCAA Champions on Dec. 15. The Red Dragons are third overall with 324 points.
