WEBSTER, NY – Three-time defending champion Nazareth College is off to a fine start after day one of the 2023 Empire 8 Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship, held in conjunction with the Allegheny Empire Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center on Wednesday, February 15.
The Golden Flyers have 186 team points to pace the field ahead of both Hartwick College, who has 106 team points. Utica University is third overall with 91 team points, while Alfred University is fourth woth 78 points and Medaille University has 26 points.
Nazareth’s 200-yard medley relay team of Isabella Jaskowski, Rebecca Skelley, Abbie Santos, and Amy Barry cruised to a two-second advantage in a time of 1:47.67. Nazareth divers Lizzy Tripp and Alexa Rizzo earned a 1-2 finish in the 1-meter. Tripp out-lasted Rizzo, the 2022 Champion, 469.00-466.75.
Nazareth’s 800-yard freestyle relay team of Caroline Coleman, Alex Koeferl, Julie Filipski and Elizabeth Deck finished nearly six seconds up on runner-up Hartwick, hitting the wall in 7:59.09.
