WEBSTER, NY – Nazareth College won three of four events to expand its lead on day two of the 2023 Empire 8 Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship, held in conjunction with the Allegheny Empire Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center on Thursday, February 16.
Hartwick’s Joelle Ocheltree led a 1-2 finish with defending champion Ellie Baird for the Hawks in the 500-yard freestyle relay in a time of 5:16.40.
Nazareth's Julie Filipski won the 200-yard individual medley, finishing just over two seconds ahead of her teammate, two-time defending champion Abbie Santos in a time of 2:11.67. Elizabeth Deck of Nazareth took the 50-yard freestyle event in a time of :24.54.
Deck earned her second win of the night, teaming with Darby McNamara, Caroline Coleman and Santos to roll to a nearly five second win in the 200-yard freestyle relay, hitting the wall in 1:38.37.
The three-time defending champion Golden Flyers extended their team lead to nearly 200 points after day two with 443 points. Hartwick is second with 262.5 points, while Alfred University is third with 196 points. Utica University is fourth overall with 148 points, while Medaille University is fifth with 52 points.
