Alfred University, Hartwick College, Houghton University, Nazareth College, Russell Sage College, St. John Fisher University and Utica University will compete at the two-day 2022-23 Empire 8 Men’s Indoor Track and Field Championships starting at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 25 from the Golisano Training Center on the campus of Nazareth. St. John Fisher will look to earn its fourth straight Empire 8 Championship. Day two action will begin on Saturday, February 26 at 10:00 a.m.

2022-23 Empire 8 Team Capsules (Order Based on 2021-22 Championship Finish)
Three-time defending champion St
. John Fisher is looking for its sixth Empire 8 crown in 2023, having also won in 2014-15, 2017-18 and 2019-20, 2021 and 2021-22. The Cardinals enter the meet with the current top performer in three of 17 events. Ivan Lopez-Testillano is the E8 leader in the triple jump, with a leap of 14.52 meters, which is also 15th best in Division III. Matthew Stasiw is ranked 22nd in the long jump at 7.06 meters, while Sean Cochrane is ranked inside the top-50 in the high jump. Sprinters Curtis Cuvilly, Brock Young, Trenton Wynn and Bishop Brady will look to gain valuable points, while Cole Ferris is also a standout in the 400-meters. Ethan Billings is the current Empire 8 leader in the 5,000-meters and will be a strong candidate in the 3,000-meters and mile. Myles Andersen will also contend in the 800-meters. Bryant DePaull is a top candidate in the high jump and long jump, while Brandon Kaplan and Jack Bickford will look to score in throws. The trio of Josiah Blowers, Maxwell Blowers and Zach Piper are set to contend in the heptathlon.
Nazareth is looking for its first Empire 8 indoor track and field title after earning runner-up honors in both 2021 and 2021-22. The Golden Flyers enter the meet with the current top performer in 10 of 17 events. Kaleb Luton is ranked 18th nationally in the 60-meter hurdles and is also the Empire 8’s No. 2 seed in the triple jump. Connor McCauslin the 2021 E8 Champ in both the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles and is seeded second behind Luton in the 60-meter hurdles. Nike Welch, Michael Puglisi and Ben Lewis will look to score key points for the Golden Flyers in both the 200- and 400-meter dash events. Lewis is the 2022 E8 Indoor Co-Rookie of the Year Nathan Bowers, the 2022 E8 Cross Country Runner of the Year, enters the meet as a top-5 seed in the 800-meters, mile, 3,000- and 5,000-meters. In addition, he is the defending Empire 8 Champion in the 5,000-meter run. Sophomore Cade Eells is entering the meet as the E8’s top-seed in both the mile and 3,000-meters. Josh Pomerleau enters the championship as the top-seed in the pole vault, while Jason Bletsko is seeded second. Aaron Lund and Jack Pomykaj enter the meet as the No. 1 and No. 3 seeds in the heptathlon. Lund has a top score of 4,141 points to lead all E8 student-athletes this season.
Utica, the defending E8 Outdoor Track and Field Champions, will be a strong contender to earn the E8 Indoor crown in 2023. The Pioneers have a bevy of prolific throwers, including Hunter Logan, a two-time All-American, who is ranked 25th nationally in the shot put. He is the defending champion in the event. Antwan Kelly is ranked 22nd nationally in the weight throw and is the E8 leader at 17.90 meters. In addition, Billie Mays III, Nathan Florian, Jacob Barnes, Justin Swavely, Michael McNeil, Spencer Borghardt and Brady VanAernam are also among the current E8 leaders in both events. Zuriel Wright, the 2019-20 20 E8 Indoor Track Rookie of the Year is ranked eighth nationally in the high jump at 2.05 meters and is second in the conference in the long jump and third in the triple jump. Junior sprinter Andrew Hadasz is the current leader in the 200-meters and is ranked second in the 60-meters. Michael Roberts is ranked second in the 5,000-meters, sixth in the 3,000-meters and fifth in the mile. Chris Wagner and Jack Rathburn will contend in the pole vault, while TyJon Billinger is set to contend in the long jump and triple jump. Andrew Wieder is ranked second in the conference in the heptathlon with a current top score of 4,039 points.
Houghton will look for a top-three team finish in 2023. Evan Kurtz will look to earn points in the sprint events, while Zach Tucker, Amos Bixler and James Bixler will contend in the middle distance events. Caleb Kasper has emerged as one of the top distance runners in the E8 and should contend for a league title in both the 3,000- and 5,000-meter events. Brennan Lewandowski is also a standout high jumper, while Malachi Yeager is also a contender in the heptathlon, seeded fourth overall, in addition to the pole vault, long jump and shot put, while Andrew Ryan will look to score points in the jumps as well. Avery Belanger enters the championship seeded fifth in the triple jump.
Russell Sage is primed to continue its ascent as an upstart program. Sophomore David Adadjo is a candidate in both the 200- and 400-meters. Senior thrower John Coddington, the 2022 Indoor and Outdoor Rookie of the Year, is seeded second in both the shot put and weight throw and will be a strong contender in both events. He is ranked in the top-50 in the shot put at 15.23 meters. Noah Rivera is currently seeded sixth in the triple jump at 12.66 meters.
Alfred enters the 2023 Empire 8 Championship looking to improve off of last season’s sixth place finish. Neil Peters has the fastest current time among all E8 student-athletes in the 60-meter dash at 7.11 seconds. Steven Jackson, John Wendt and Jaleel Joseph add strong depth in the sprint events. George Mecca is a candidate to score points in the 400- and 800-meters, while Jason Crocker and Andrew Parnapy will look to contribute to the throwing events.
Hartwick will have a handful of student-athletes competing, including sprinter Patrick Conteh in addition to relay teams.
