The Empire 8 Conference announced its 2022-23 Women’s Basketball Championship All-Tournament Team on Tuesday, February 28. St. John Fisher College senior forward Kaitlyn Walker was named Empire 8 Tournament Most Valuable Player after leading the Cardinals to their seventh league title on February 25.
Walker, an All-Empire 8 first team selection, tallied a pair of double-doubles, averaging 17.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 2.0 steals per game in the two tournament games. She scored 17 points and added 13 rebounds in top-seeded St. John Fisher’s 67-41 win over No. 5 Elmira College in the semifinal and followed that up with 18 points and 11 boards in the Empire 8 Championship game, a 78-55 victory over No. 2 seed Nazareth College.
Fellow St. John Fisher standout Sidney Tomasso joined Gardner on the All-Tournament Team after scoring 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor, including three made 3-pointers in the championship game versus Nazareth.
Jadyn Abrams averaged 15.0 points per game, while draining 12 free throws in two contests for runner-up Nazareth College to earn All-Tournament Team accolades for the second straight season. Neveah Winston of Elmira College and Syrita Faraj of Russell Sage College were also named to the All-Tournament Team. Winston averaged 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals in two tournament games, including 17 points and eight boards in the semifinal contest versus St. John Fisher, while Faraj, the 2023 Empire 8 Player of the Year, averaged 21.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game in a pair of tournament games. She scored 20 points in the opening round win over No. 6 Alfred University and added 23 points in the semifinal contest against Nazareth.
